Western Sydney’s new airport, connecting Greater Sydney to Australia and beyond
Project Overview
Western Sydney International Airport is a major new aviation hub set to transform connectivity across Greater Sydney, with capacity to service up to 10 million passengers annually.
As one of Australia’s most significant infrastructure developments, the project will drive economic growth in Western Sydney, creating jobs and improving access to global and domestic networks.
TTW contributed multidisciplinary engineering expertise across the terminal and supporting infrastructure, helping to deliver a high-performance, buildable, and architecturally distinctive outcome.
Scope of Work
TTW delivered structural, civil, façade, and construction engineering services across the terminal development.
- Key structural works included design of baggage handling system (BHS) support structures, roof secondary steel, structural peer review, and steel shop detailing to support procurement and improve cost certainty.
- Façade engineering services covered complex building envelope systems across the terminal and piers, including complex geometries, façade structural certification, thermal analysis and condensation risk assessments, and performance solutions durability.
- Civil works included peer review of apron pavements and stormwater systems, as well as design and coordination of landside infrastructure including roads, car parks, and pedestrian areas.
- Construction engineering services supported delivery through methodologies for staged construction, temporary works, basement retention, and structural assessments to accelerate the programme.
